FAQ
What happens during the treatment?
The Botox treatment is a quick and straightforward procedure, typically lasting around 20 minutes. During the session:
- The doctor will first ask you to activate specific facial muscles by making certain expressions to assess how they function.
- Using an extremely fine, short needle, the doctor will inject the botulinum toxin into the targeted areas. While the injections may cause slight discomfort this is usually brief.
- After the procedure, you may notice some mild redness and swelling at the injection sites, which usually subsides within 1-2 hours.
- A 2 week follow up appointments is recommended (with no extra charge.)
How long do the effects last?
- The treatment usually reaches its full effect within 7 days, although this may vary slightly between patients. The results typically last between 2 to 6 months.
- In the first couple of years, more frequent treatments are often required to “re-educate” the muscles. Over time, as the muscles adapt and require less intervention, treatments can be spaced further apart.
Are there any risks involved?
Side effects are very rare. However, potential risks include:
- Temporary drooping of the eyelid: This can occasionally occur but typically resolves within a few weeks.
- Allergic reactions: In extremely rare cases, patients may develop an allergy to the treatment.
Additionally, pregnancy is considered a contraindication, and Botox treatments are not recommended during this time.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal, and most patients can return to their regular activities, including work, immediately after the treatment. Any minor redness or swelling typically subsides within a few hours.
What is the aftercare?
Comprehensive aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment, either in person or via email. Generally, after your treatment, you should avoid the following for 24-48 hours:
- Alcohol consumption
- Rubbing or massaging your face
- Hot tubs and saunas
- Facials
- Strenuous exercise
- Avoid Lying down for 2 hours
These guidelines help ensure optimal results and reduce the risk of complications.
